Until departure

Due to Priniting timelines, Sponsorship opportunities with full logos close on the 7 October 2024. That's

Donations remain open, even throughout the event

What counts as a shitbox?

Car choice on the rally matters. The Shitbox Rally has various rules as to what is allowed to be taken on a rally.

Some of the rules are pragmatic/practical from a running the event point of view – such as no buses, or vehicles with wheelbases larger than 3000mm. This is largely so that if your vehicle breaks down that it can be safely taken on the flatbed towtruck.

Mostly the rules are there to keep with the spirit of the event. Ie the car can’t cost more than $1500 including any repairs and improvements. A rule designed to discourage people buying a $1500 shitbox and turning it back into a decent car by fitting a new engines, suspensions, interiors, etc

The rules as they stand are as follows

  • Must cost less than $1500 including repairs, modifications and improvements.
  • This excludes the cost of rego, insurance and wheels tyres which vary in cost and are deemed necessary
  • Must be a 2WD. (Therefore Subarus, various Audis, Pajeros, some Volvos, some Territory’s etc are out)
  • Weigh less than 1800kg
  • Can be donated to the team, so long as market value is less than the $1500 – ie unfortunately no giving us a brand new Lexus for the rally
  • Decorations to the car are encouraged and excluded in the $1500

So what does that leave us looking for?

a Shitbox.

Preferably a wagon or van for the additional space it allows for decorations, sponsor stickers and to carry stuff on the trip.

One with no obvious major repairs.

Working aircon would be a desirable bonus.

What vehicle would you take?
